Basic (Re)Reading

The basic stage began with the assignment of the project and ended with our decision to pursue individual research.

Basic (Re)Reading (Charlyne)

• Individual Reading, Mapping Bazerman’s argument in categories (e.g. the background of the field of Writing Studies, Merton’s Theory of the Middle Range, Bazerman’s summary of the complexity of Writing Studies and how it is often separated by how different scholarly discplines look at writing, Bazerman’s inquiry for this article and what he sees as the future of understanding wrting practices, Bazerman’s heuristic of using specifying questions).

Basic (Re)Reading (Ryan)

• The search to find answers to our framing questions oriented my initial read;
• I was confused, at first, by the shift from theoretical to personal examples;
• My reading was driven by my knowledge of the upcoming interview;
• I did not identify the value of the Merton references on the first read, since I had barely a passing familiarity with his ideas.
