The developmental stage lasted from our decision to pursue our research independently to the start of our interview. The interview itself was an integral part of this stage, even though we had not yet conducted the interview, because we were working to shape accurate and insightful questions for our interview in the following stage.

Analyzing transcribed interview for patterns that lead to Bazerman’s inquiry of logic.

Reading up on Merton, other works by Bazerman, and theories such as genre and activity theory made the direction of the article tangible;
These sources provided ideas for questions for the interview, and allowed my partner and I to discuss the contexts surrounding the work.
